Just another weblog
Keep it simple…
By rob January 31, 2007
Mark Hurst wrote an intriguing piece at goodexperience.com (see link below) about community-driven websites — showing information that customers care about-vs. organizationally-driven sites-showing successive layers of expensive redesigns with competing interests of design, marketing and branding. He says it “proves an (obvious) point about branding online: the brand is the customer experience, not the colors or logos. The [organizationally-driven] site has all the “right” colors and graphics…attempting to create an emotional experience for the user.” Whereas the “[community-driven] site delivers its information in black text, on a white background, with blue text links.”
Hurst goes on to say: “enough talk about colors creating an emotional experience. When people go online to answer a question, they don’t care what color, typeface, associated graphics, or website domain is showing on the page. They just want a QUCIK and EASY experience.”

Excellent post. Does this site address this simplicity in your view?

Hi, thanks for your comment. To be honest, I’m still trying to come up with the answer to your question; I’ve been spending time on this site, getting comfortable with it and figuring out how I can derive value from using it. That said, I feel there is a curve to getting comfortable with all of the features and have not found it to be overly intuitive. I’m a huge fan of sites like YouTube, CL and Myspace b/c they require little to no effort from the user.

Knowledge is not currency. Information that you can use is currency. So far all I see is yet another Blog site. I hope there is more to it than this.

Hi rcgmac, does your comment address my post or the site as a whole?

simplicity is the uber-sensibility. There is a lot here in this site. It seems to me that you can just use any single feature and ignore the others. I am guessing that each area of the site is appealing to a slightly different user. For me, I like the option of just going in and seeing what other think the value of a square is in the neighborhood I am shopping - cole valley, SF. (94117) - and seeing the comments people are leaving.
