What is my-currency?
My-Currency is a place to collaborate with others. We are focused on housing right now but we will add other areas of interest. Lets us know if there is something you would like to see and we will do our best to make it happen!

Why should I participate?
You may find other people who have information or knowledge that can help you solve your problem. Also, it is an easy and fun way to test your knowledge of things. We only reveal people's reputation currency if it is above median of all participants.

What is CrowdValue?
CrowdValue is where we process everyone's idea of value for specific problems - such as "What is the value of a house for sale" or "what will be the value of a square foot in 6 months in my neighborhood"? So in that regard, CrowdValue is exactly like the stock exchange it brings people together to coordinate all the different views of value and settle on an equilibrium price, at a point in time. CrowdValue is a trading engine and marketplace.

Are there financial incentives?
We do not offer any financial incentives for participation but if you are a professional, the opportunity available to you is to showcase your knowledge and earn clients. You can write in our blogs or wiki's, answer peoples questions in our Q&A; platform, or tell us what you think of values of houses or housing indexes in our markets (CrowdValue).

Is this a "real" exchange?
If you mean whether money and risk are exchanged at My-Currency, the answer is no. We use exchange software to gather information, coordinate views and discover experts.

What is a market and why is it better?
A market or exchange is just a location where people express their views of the future via a transaction. In real-money exchanges, this expression manifests as money, securities, and risk. In a non-money exchange like My-Currency, it manifests as status and hence reputation.

If I can't find a house listed in your markets, how do I create one?
Two ways: First, you can go to "Add a Property" and enter all the information. Second, you can use our bookmarking tool to bring the link into My-Currency. If you give us a correct address and basic house details, our software automatically create a market for you to start trading.

Are the market prices trustworthy?
The prices reflect the consensus view of all the people involved. It is up to you to decide if someone more qualified can guide you. It is very much like the stock market. If stock XYZ is trading at $25.25 then that is its value at that time. Certainly people will have opposing views and act upon those views. That is the beauty of a market. It collects all these view and coordinates them. The price may go up or down based on the collective conviction of all participants.

How does My-Currency determine reputation?
Good question! We look at the performance, contributions, and popularity of contributions to get a score for people along specific terms. It is a pretty fancy math formula that will evolve as we learn but the bottom line is that it is meant to reflect an individual's value to the community within a specific context. So a user can have a lot of reputation for the term "North Beach" but very little or no reputation for "China Town" even though these San Francisco neighborhoods are next to each other. It ultimately depends on where you contribute. Remember, reputation is contextual!

What is a wiki and can I contribute?
A wiki is a document that can be edited by anyone. The value in this is that anyone can add as little or as much as they like. It is a way of collecting everyone's thoughts about a subject. Contributions that lack balance will encounter opposing views that will edit this point of view. To avoid getting into an "edit war" with others, try to take a "neutral point of view" unless you specifically mark you position as "one perspective on this issue is
" We use the same wiki software as the good folks at wikipedia.org. This is our way of supporting their great work and contribution to society!

What is a blog? Who can create one?
A blog is nothing more than a place where you can write your thoughts. It is a public journal. When you register with My-Currency, we give a blog automatically. Just go to your homepage and select "view my blog" and then go to "Blog Administration", "Write" to make your first entry. Another way is to through "My Housing". If you select "Blog this", it will take into the section that lets you write an entry. "Blog this" generates a title but you can change it to anything that suits you.

What is Q&A; and who answers questions?
Question and Answer is a place where you can ask a question or answer someone else's question. This is open and public so questions and answers can and will come from anyone registered at My-Currency.

What is Bookmarking?
Bookmarking is a way to save a website link that you have visited. For Firefox users, you just need to use your mouse to drag the tool from your private homepage into a tab in your browser. For Internet Explorer, please follow the instructions.
We think bookmarking at My-Currency is important because it is a way to centralize information important to you that can also benefit others because all bookmarks are public. So if you find an important site that helps you understand a problem, by sharing it you have just made life easier for others with the same problem because they will see you link.
For housing, it is also a way to coordinate your housing search. As you visit various websites that have house listings, just enter the property details and you will now have one location that saves all your notes and the links.

Can I contact other community members?
Not directly unless they input their contact information. You can send them a question which will get displayed to everyone as well as get emailed to that person.

How does My Currency Co. make money?
We plan on selling placement within the site to advertisers and professionals. Also, we will sell optional business services to professionals. There are other things as well but our CEO keeps them locked away in his top drawer (the key is under the keyboard).

How is the negotiated housing price determined?
We have a data source that gives us this from the county. But because of the severe delays (think about the length of escrow and then government documentation), we allow users to declare a closed value as an interim step to the reported data.

Are all the housing markets houses listed for sale?
No. You can list any house you like. It is a great way to get other peoples assessment of value! As for reputation, our algorithms will compensate for this fact.

How do I remove my house from among your markets?
Please email us your complaint and we will remove the market.
