Yes, the main downside is that most of the Marina homes were built on land fill. Even with reinforcements, the homes could still be badly damaged or destroyed in a medium to major Earthquake.

Truly, most of the homes in all of San Francisco (and the whole Bay Area, really) are either on landfill or near enough to liquifaction zones to trigger the insurance peoples’ ire. The Marina is probably on the shakiest ground, but the whole area is pretty vulnerable.
